Speaking Turkish w/ the students of NSLI-Y

[vimeo width=”640″ height=”360″]http://vimeo.com/48667985[/vimeo] Learning another language has never been my strong suit. Every time we are working abroad I have this sense of shame when I can’t greet someone in their own tongue, instead reverting to silence or worse “Hello”. But language is more than just a way to order food or ask for directions, it’s the first […]

VIMEO Video School – Video 101 for Beginners

Creating video can seem both easy as pie and impossible at the same time. That’s been the experience of many of our clients who strike out into the brave new world of in-house video creation. Likewise the abundance of advice, tips and tutorials on the internet can be a blessing, and a confusing maze that leaves folks frustrated.

That’s why we are so excited to share VIMEO’s video school! As a indie version of YouTube (without the ads and other nonsense) VIMEO has long been our go to method for sharing video. It also turns out they’ve assembled a wide variety of video tutorials on everything from shooting to editing to motion graphics. If you work at a non-profit and your boss has enthusiastically suggested YOU shoot/edit this year’s videos, this might be a great place to start.

Check out their Video 101 page for a three great starting videos.

Our Fonkoze Video: a DoGooder Award Finalist!

Our first reaction to the news that our video for Fonkoze is a finalist in the 2012 DoGooder Nonprofit Video Awards was excitement. These awards are the closest thing our industry gets to the Oscars and it’s certainly nice to feel like your work is being appreciated by your peers. But my second reaction upon […]

The Spotlight of Journalism and Compassion

Nicholas Kristof has long been a hero of ours, not only because of his commitment to important social issues, but also because of his relentless pursuit of storytelling as a concrete method for creating change.
